Where are some good places to take a week long backpacking trip? |

Hello All,
Winter break is coming up and I really want to take a week long backpacking trip somewhere that will have beautiful views, rolling streams, and hills. Links to sites, parks, national forests are all welcomed and encouraged. I did the Cahutta Wilderness a couple of years back and am just itching to get on the trail again. Happy Trails, Bryan

The Big Bend in Texas is nice and not too cold yet. There are some good areas in Arkansas, but the chance of rain is always there. Mount Magazine is a great area in AR.

The gila wilderness in southern New Mexico is pretty spectacular, and might be kinda snowed up, but it would be very solitary!

hikingcoach: Thanks a lot. I would love to see a mountain lion at Big Bend. The terrain looks beautiful! And I never knew Arkansas had such features. I drove across the state, but it was under the cover of night fall. This sounds like the perfect time to go see AR too, when the leaves are changing.
Nicholasd: I loved my experience when I went to the Grand Canyon, another spectacular place in NM, but this place seems dynamically different. Very amazing. I would definitely love the seclusion and just spend some days out and about in this wilderness. Just listening to the sounds of creation. I might try out one of the cliff dwellings their in the wake of snowfall. It is another big "to do" on my list. Thanks for the suggestion. |

I have heard many good thins about TX. There is some beautiful country there. That is for sure.
